“I Am Not Contradictory” – Pochettino Wants Spurs To Have January Transfer Options After Slump

|

Following on from the weekend’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Watford, and in fairness, Tottenham Hotspur could well have taken less than a point from the game given the overall performance, manager Mauricio Pochettino was again asked about potential January transfer spending.

Having previously said he was happy with the current group of players, despite the struggles we’ve seen across 2019 – although recent results and performances have certainly been starker – Pochettino repeated that claim as he spoke to Sky Sports post-game, but I think plenty of fans will certainly welcome his overall message.

“We are not going to get any benefit to talk about January, it is too far away, we have got a lot of games to play. That is the structure of the club that is working and thinking and they need to be ready if we need to do something, if not we keep going, but I am happy with the squad, I am happy with the players. Like always, what is going to happen in January I cannot guess today, what happens will happen. We need to take the responsibility. But if we win all of the games why will we need to do anything? But if we need something we need to act. But we need to act and stay calm. It is not the moment to talk, when the time arrives we are going to take that decision in one way or another. But please, I am not contradictory in my speech or my press conference. Now is the time to stay all together, all of the squad, with the staff and the fans and try and change the atmosphere.”

Whilst it’s not a caste iron, let me spend and strengthen message, Pochettino was unlikely to be that blunt given confidence in the current group is already low, but you don’t have to dig deep between the lines to see the message is pretty clear that he wants to be ready to improve the group in the New Year.

Whilst our existing group can definitely perform better, one win in seven across all competitions, sends its own message.
